The Everest region is one of the most famous and most popular regions for trekking and climbing activities throughout the globe. Of course, the main reason for this region being famous is Mount Everest itself, standing at 8850m, and a dream of many mountaineers. Trekking in the foothills of the Everest Region is also a dream for many walkers and mountain lovers with the Everest Base Camp trek being one of the most well-known treks in the world. However as well as the classic Everest Base Camp trek there are many other options in this region, with the Gokyo Valley and 3 Passes treks becoming very popular.
The Everest region is home to many well-known peaks such as the beautiful Ama Dablam and Cholatse, just below 7000m, and it is home to another three 8000m peaks; Makalu, Lhotse and Cho Oyu. Many trails cross exciting high passes over 5000 m, such as the Kongma La, Cho La, and Renjo La. Other highlights of the region include high altitude glacial lakes such as the famous Gokyo lakes, and of course you are exposed to the wonderful Sherpa culture and the spirituality of the many Tibetan Buddhist monasteries.
Most of the region comes under the preservation of Sagarmatha National Park which is also the UNESCO world heritage site. The area is very accessible and most visitors take a direct flight from Kathmandu to Lukla which is also the most convenient way.
